The ACCUPLACER, developed by the College Board, is used by hundreds of college, universities, and technical schools as an aid to determine the course placement of incoming college students. Most testing is given during orientation by the Student Services staff. The students who fail to reach a score on the test high enough to place out must take one or more developmental math courses, usually in their first semester, extending the time necessary to complete a degree. Nationally, the failure rates in each course are around 50%.
The EnableMath College Readiness Program is designed to help incoming college students place out of one or more developmental math courses. The program is recommended for students who either want to prepare to take the Accuplacer or have taken the test and failed to place out of a developmental math course.
EnableMath content is designed to cover all material found on the Accuplacer Arithmetic and Algebra tests. The program combines the complete web-based technology and curriculum of the EnableMath Program with the Personal Learning Manager who will pre-assess the student for current knowledge and then build a customized learning plan for that student. The PLM will assign and evaluate the students work, intervening where necessary to ensure that the student is progressing within the time required to master the content needed to pass either the Arithmetic or Algebra test and thus place out of most developmental math courses. Students who meet minimum mastery requirements of assigned work are guaranteed to reach their goal on the test or will be provided the program at no additional cost until they do.
