Why should you pay $12.95/month to help your child learn math?
Keeping Score — Students are no different from adults, to get them to practice, to get them to do the work you have to keep score. We would all like to believe that learning can be so much fun, that our students should be so motivated, that our system of rewards and punishments should be so well thought out, that every student will automatically stay on track, practice, learn, and succeed. But that is not reality. In the real world each and every one of us needs someone to keep track of what we do, to help us set a schedule, to show us our history so that we know where we have been and where we are going. In short we all have to keep score in everything we do and education is not exception.
It’s the Data — Unfortunately in education today most of the score keeping is done by testing and tests. Because tests are few and far between they allow many of our students, indeed most of our students in math courses to either fail completely or fail to thrive. Tests, as the basis for keeping score, leave giant holes that so many of our students in K-12 as well as in college to fall through. Students like the rest of us need much more consistent feedback and tracking that can only come from the daily homework assignments that they do. If you really want to help a student succeed in math then you have to keep track of their work and progress and keep score on a daily basis.
A New Technology — Continuous tracking of student progress is very hard to do with the old technology of education, the paper and ink textbook. Even the best teachers cannot consistently grade homework assignments and provide very rapid feedback to students. So students don’t do their homework, or don’t do it properly, or don’t pay attention to it and thus don’t learn from it. But if the computer is used as the homework tool, it can provide immediate feedback to students, it can keep track of student work, and it can provide the continuous stream of data so essential for the parent or perhaps the tutor to intervene and support the process.
EnableMath was designed from the ground up to supply that critical data to the teacher, the tutor, the instructor, the parent and yes to the student as well. That continuous stream of data in visual and easy to interpret form enables just-in-time intervention so that students do not have the chance to fail and drop out. It provides the means to support the student’s work and to adjust the learning to fit the needs of each individual student. Just as we are more than willing to pay for school instead of going to the local big box store and buy a $4.95 math workbook because tracking is so important, so too will many people find that $12.95 per month is an inexpensive price to pay whether you are a parent or tutor, to get the continuous data so absolutely essential for educational success.
